I just wanted to say congratulations to Savannah Keenan's group for winning first place at the Mary Lou Foulton conference!
Also, a big thank you and congratulations to my own group for the runner up award at the conference! It was such a neat experience to do this research. Sarah Coyne- thank you for all of your help and your willingness to help us succeed!!

Blog 12-M. Russell Ballard addresses Media once again!
General Conference weekend is the best!! So grateful for computers, TVs, internet, and other forms of technology that allow us to view conference from any location!
I loved each conference talk, but was especially excited about talks that connected with any of my classes. Elder Christofferson spoke about the importance of fathers, and even used the word "bafoon" when explaining what the world typically thinks of fathers.
M. Russell Ballard spoke of the importance of family councils, and that there are 4 different types. In order to have the best results, "electronic devices need to be turned off so everyone can look at and listen to each other. During family council, you may want to have a basket for the electronic devices, so that when everyone gathers, including mom and dad, everyone can put their phones, tablets and MP3 players in the basket".
Here is the link to Elder Ballard's talk from Saturday afternoon!

Blog 11-March Madness
I don't know about you guys, but without media, I would not have a clue what's going on in college basketball. I have loved watching games from my phone, computer, TV and sometimes all three at once :) Definitely brings people together, and depending on who you're rooting for, it can tear you guys apart ;)

Blog #10-IMDB parents guide
Recently I discovered something very useful on the movie website "IMDB". When you go to the home page, simply type in a movie title. Once you find your movie, scroll down on the page to "storyline". At the bottom of this section will be something called "parents guide". If you click on this, you will be able to read a description of the movie. They include details sex & nudity, violence and gore, profanity, drugs/alcohol/smoking, and frightening/intense scenes portrayed in the movie. Depending on what movie you are looking up, it might be somewhat uncomfortable to read these details, so be careful.
I am not sure who exactly posts these details or ratings, but I have found it somewhat helpful because even though many movies are rated PG-13, we should focus on what is actually in the movie, rather than just the rating label.

Blog #9- helpful apps
This weekend, I went to Las Vegas to watch the WCC tournament. It was a great time, and I was able to visit my brother, his wife and their 9 month old baby. I was grateful for different apps during this vacation such as google maps that helped me navigate my way through the city, gas buddy to get me cheap gas, and ESPN so I could check random stats, scores, and game updates.
What apps do you guys find most useful?

Blog #8- LEO WINS!!!!
I watched the Oscars this year just to see Leo win an Oscar. I was disappointed that there were only 2 or 3 movies throughout the entire night that were not rated R (Inside Out, Bridge of Spies, 007 Spectre and probably some others that I don't remember).
So, I didn't see Leo's movie The Revenant but I was happy to see Leonardo DiCaprio finally win an Oscar!
Also, I loved Lady Gaga's song supporting victims of sexual abuse. Good for her standing up for survivors, and making a stand!

Blog #7-Fear in the Media
When I was a little girl, I watched the movie "What Lies Beneath" with my brothers. I don't remember the plot or the story line at all, but I do remember a scene where the young woman is being attacked in the bath tub, and she is trying to unplug the tub by pulling the string attached to the plug with her toes!! She can't get a hold of it, and honestly, I don't even remember anything past that.
This has stuck with me ever since, and each time I take a bath, I make sure that I can unplug the tub in case I get attacked. How crazy is that?! Never realized that is had that much of an impact until our last lecture.
Any crazy stories for you guys?

Blog #6-Pandora
Recently, I began to listen to Pandora when I am cooking a meal. I have discovered several stations that have taken me back to my childhood, and I can remember all of the lyrics! This reminded me of our music lecture and how lyrics have such an impact on your behavior. I am grateful for this, because I am able to remember certain friends, places, and events that I attended and I can remember the music. It's amazing!!
What is your favorite pandora station?

Blog #4- If I were a song...
Last week's lecture about music and the media was extremely powerful to me. I thought about it, and 2 songs came to my mind.
#1-Little Moments by Brad Paisley
#2-That's the Good Stuff by Kenny Chesney
Even if you HATE country music, I recommend listening to one or both of these songs.

Blog #3-PSYCH!
This past week, my husband has introduced me to the hilarious TV show Psych. On the first day of class, a lot of people announced it as their favorite show, and now I know why! I especially love the intro song they have, it is so catchy!
Did you know there is a pineapple in every episode of Psych? Next time you watch, make sure you try to catch it!
So far I have noticed pineapple chunks, a whole pineapple, pineapple smoothie, and a few more.
What have you guys noticed?

Blog #2-IF YOU LIKE TO SAVE MONEY, READ THIS!
DIGITAL COUPONS!! :)
This past weekend, I discovered something truly amazing. Smith's grocery store has digital coupons, through their website! Not only coupons, but each day there is an offer that you can receive that is completely free! For example, a free cup of yogurt, or a free 6 pack of water bottles. There are a ton of coupons on this website and when I went shopping, I saved $10!!!
Here are just some of the savings!!! There are hundreds more.

I am so grateful I came across this, because before I go shopping there, I can look at the app (Smith's App) and see the coupons and decide on what I should buy at that store! If there are sweet deals, all you have to do is sign up for an account, include your smith's rewards number, and then hit the button that says add to card! Then at checkout, all of you coupons will be applied at the end of the transaction. Woo hoo!

Blog #1- January 15th: I was able to do some research and interview my brother about infants and the media. This was for an assignment in the class. Something that I noticed about myself is I tend to focus on the negative effects of the media, even though there are a lot of positives. However, I think it is because I have been around a lot of people who would rather be on their phone than with me. Here is an article is you're interested. http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/content/135/1/1.
